What the what? What's a dog trick? Why would I want to do them? Why should anyone care if I posted them?
Look, there's a reason you got a dog. And that's because dogs do stuff. You got a dog because you wanted a pet that was going to give you lots of love and need lots of time, attention, food, walks and love back. Dogs are time-intensive. And what you do with your dog's time can mean a lot to you and your dog. |
Tricks are awesome for youThere's more to dog tricks than just the cool factor. Training should be a life-long process where both you and your dog are constantly learning. When you extend training past doggie obedience school, your dog will respond to you better and more intensely. In short, when you're a better trainer, your dog will listen to you more.
Tricks are awesome for your dog, tooTo them, training time is awesome time and not just because they get lots of treats. Training time is highly stimulating and when you get into shaping and trick building techniques, dogs exercise their minds to a high degree. Mental and often physical stimulation, however, is something that dogs sadly lack these days. Tricks can fill the gap.

You owe it to your furry buddyRemember, they love you. I mean, they really really do apparently. And it's your job to remind your dog that their name is Rover and not "HeyGitdown!" Tricks strengthen your bond with your dog. When you're the one showing up with treats and fun training time, your dog is going to love you even more. You're the center of their world. Shouldn't you act like it?
So there you go: tricks are cool, they teach your dog to be more responsive, they teach you to be a better trainer, they're mentally and physically stimulating and they build an even stronger relationship between the two of you. So why not? |
